Hrithik Roshan is now worth an estimated Rs 2,500 crore. Not long before he became a star, his family was sleeping on mats in a house that was barely more than walls and floors.

The Hurun India Rich List 2026 places Hrithik fourth among Indian actors, behind Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan. His estimated wealth has risen from Rs 2,160 crore in 2025 to Rs 2,500 crore this year, according to India Today and Moneycontrol. And unlike some of his peers, Hrithik is moving up rather than down.

Hrithik Roshan net worth 2026: where he ranks

Here is the top of the actors' table on the Hurun India Rich List 2026, as reported by The Indian Express and India Today. Shah Rukh Khan leads with Rs 10,000 crore. Amitabh Bachchan follows at Rs 4,000 crore. Salman Khan is third at Rs 3,000 crore. Hrithik Roshan is fourth at Rs 2,500 crore.

Mint notes that Hrithik's figure is Rs 500 crore below Salman's, and that only seven actors and cricketers made the entire list this year. Hrithik is one of just four actors in that group; the other three names are cricketers Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, all of whom sit below him.

The jump of Rs 340 crore in a year is meaningful in a year when the list's top actor, Shah Rukh Khan, saw his estimated wealth fall by Rs 2,490 crore.

HRX: the brand behind the fortune

So what is driving the growth? Business Today credits it largely to the commercial expansion and valuation growth of HRX, Hrithik's activewear and lifestyle brand. The Indian Express goes as far as saying the rise came "all thanks to his brand HRX."

Mint adds more detail on his business interests. Hrithik co-founded HRX with a focus on fitness clothing, has invested in Cure.fit and its related food businesses, and has recently launched HRXFilms. In other words, his wealth is built on the same idea as his screen image: fitness, discipline and a brand that travels well beyond the cinema hall.

The rags-to-riches backstory: mats, rent and a father's tears

The Hurun number is impressive. The backstory, which resurfaced after the list was published, is what has made it a talking point.

In a 2006 interview with Simi Garewal, quoted by The Indian Express and Moneycontrol, Hrithik recalled a time when his father, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, could not afford the family's rent. His mother, Pinky Roshan, took Hrithik and his sister to her parents' home while Rakesh stayed with his own mother. Describing the move into their next home, Hrithik said: "Until the time my dad could earn enough money to buy another house. And then we shifted into another house which was barely just walls and floors. We slept on mattresses, these mats and slowly got the furniture in."

The low point came later. According to The Indian Express, Rakesh Roshan's 1997 film Koyla, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, struggled at the box office and left him in serious financial difficulty. In an old interview with Zee ETC Bollywood, Hrithik remembered: "I saw him one morning, and whatever he had made, he said, 'I have lost everything.' So that was the first time, actually, that I saw tears in his eyes."

The gamble that launched a superstar

Then came the biggest bet of all. When Rakesh decided to launch his son in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, the film went around Rs 3 crore over budget, The Indian Express reports, and Rakesh mortgaged his house and cars to fund it.

Hrithik did not know at the time. In the documentary series The Roshans, he recalled: "That's the night I found out, my mom told me, that the house was mortgaged, the cars were mortgaged... I realised how much was at stake."

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai released in 2000, became a major success and turned Hrithik into a leading man overnight. As The Indian Express puts it, for Rakesh the gamble paid off, and for Hrithik it was the start of a career that would eventually take his estimated wealth to Rs 2,500 crore.

Twenty-six years later, the boy who slept on mats is one of only four actors on India's most-watched wealth ranking, and one of the few whose number is still climbing.
